UK AVS+UNIRAS USER GROUP

Annual Meeting 1998

The University of Birmingham

2-3 November 1998

The Annual Conference

The 1998 annual conference was organised by the UK AVS+UNIRAS User Group and was held at the University of Birmingham Conference Park from Monday 2nd to Tuesday 3rd November 1998. The conference was aimed at both academic and commercial AVS and UNIRAS users. Advanced Visual Systems were, as always, well represented by key management and technical personnel, so the conference provided a valuable opportunity to find out about new developments. The conference ran from mid-morning on the 2nd to mid-afternoon on the 3rd and included the conference dinner in the Conference Park. It consisted of papers with demonstrations of hardware and software in an adjoining room, concurrently. Parallel streams of papers were not planned, however. The conference fee of £200 included full catering, accommodation and all conference sessions.

The conference program had talks by academic and industrial users and staff of AVS/Uniras covering AVS/Uniras applications and developments. Ample timewas available for informal discussions during the conference.

The venue

The conference had exclusive use of Hornton Grange, on the University of Birmingham Conference Park. Hornton Grange was built during the early years of this century as an Edwardian style gentleman's residence which now stands in its own attractive and peaceful grounds within the Conference Park. It has its own bar and Conservatory Dining Room with 32 modern and highly specified en-suite bedrooms in the adjacent North and South wings. The Conference Park itself is located very close to the University campus - a taxi from Birmingham New Street station to the Conference Park takes about 10 minutes and costs about £5. There is ample free car parking at Hornton Grange with Birmingham New Street station having good rail links with Birmingham International Airport and the rest of the UK. hornton_grange
